Mercury’s War:  A Novel of the Breeds

I have read this book, in fact the entire series, more times than I can count.  There is just something about the vulnerability in the strong alpha personalities of the breeds that calls to me.  My first true love when it came to a book series was Anne McCaffrey’s Dragon Riders of Pern.  Lora Leigh’s Breeds are much the same when it comes to the ability to pick up any book within the series and immediately be taken to the world hidden within the pages.  In each book, you will find strong alpha men and their strong mates.  Even the mates who are less alpha and more nurturing have to be strong to deal with their breed mate and the uncertain world they live in.

Mercury and Ria are one of my favorite couples in this series.  They have both suffered so much and regretfully they still have to suffer a little bit more before they are able to claim their HEA.  But claim it they do!  And thanks to Mercury, Ria finally releases her inner strength and claims herself and her mate.  I adore Lora Leigh’s writing and I am always on the lookout for another novel of the breeds.  As much as you all know how I feel about anthologies, I even have a handful of them that I only read the breed novella from.

This is one of my favorite books!

I have read this book many times and will be reading it many more times in the future. The entire series rates up there with Anne McCaffrey’s dragon riders of Pern. You can start with any book in the series and feel like you know exactly where you are at within the world of the breeds. Mercury and Ria both pull at my heart strings. They have been hurt terribly in the past and keep a tight rein on their feelings and actions to protect themselves. Outside forces may be working against them, but when they come together the HEA is epic.

The Rock Wood pack is such a fascinating place. The members of the pack and their stories call to me. This book was especially endearing. I love an underdog!  I’m almost always going to cheer on the person who seems to get the short end of the stick. That is the case with Tatiana. She is the lowest wolf in the pack and she can’t even shift unless the moon is full and bright. She hides under her drab clothing and stays out of the way in the kitchen. Her only claim to fame is her friendship with the queen.

But sometimes not everything is as it seems........

The strongest wolf in the pack has eyes only for Tatiana and he will make her see her true self before they reach their HEA. The love they share will be sure to make you cry and cheer before the end of the book. I hope Ms Crescent will write the rest of the books in this series at some point. She gives such a wonderful teaser at the end of the book.

I love that Cade, this big alpha male falls in love with the seemingly weakest link of the pack. It’s so perfect the way he stands up for Tatiana while at the same time giving her room to find her own strength. Yet again I am drawn to the members of the Rock Wood pack and hope the author will continue the story again soon.

I’m a big fan of Sam Crescent, but I have missed reading some of her older works. What can I say?  She is an author who cranks fantastic books out several times a month, it’s sometimes hard to go back because her newest are all calling to me. I admit it, I tend to stalk Amazon when she has a new book coming out, as they are often released early, and in doing so, I came across this little gem.

Charlotte just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up mated to the werewolf alpha. Too bad she knew nothing about werewolves, guys or parties and apparently her sister. For four years, she lived in blissful ignorance. She remembers nothing about that night only the feeling that something is missing. She even gets engaged, but can’t bring herself to let him touch her.

In rides Micah, her hero and mate. He may bring her back home, but he has his work cut out for him. These two might take a while to find their rhythm, but when they do the HEA gives us all hope for ourselves.

What a great book!  It’s a true testament to things happen the way they are supposed to. Neither Micah nor Charlotte could move on as long as they were apart. Only when they reunited did they truly enjoy life to the fullest. I felt bad for Charlotte when she was faced with Misty, but I think she needed it to find her true strength. She needed to be strong to reach her HEA. I can’t wait to read the next book!

OMG!!  I can’t believe this book was published to Amazon in 2013 and the rest of the series has not been written. I love this book and I’m already invested in the rest of the pack, as well as Layla, Alaric and the two vampires finding their mates. The story is so well rounded and well written that each character is an essential part of the story and not just a supporting cast member to the lead couple. If even one had not been included the story may have suffered. I thoroughly enjoyed Crazy Lizzy and her antics. It makes you wonder if she is really crazy or if it isn’t just difficult to separate the far future she sees with the reality she lives. 

I truly hope Ms Crescent takes pity on her poor readers and brings back the pack with stories of them finding the mates and HEAs they crave and deserve. I’m fairly certain we haven’t seen the last of Lori yet. Evil like that tends to be the bad penny that keeps showing up.

The declaration of a mate is fast in this story, but the build up to the HEA is a long glorious ride. What a great beginning of a new series!  There are all those paranormal beings we love and the ones we love to hate. So many side characters just waiting to have their stories told and good ole Crazy Lizzy who seems the sort to gently wind her way through them all. I hope we get to see what became of everyone soon.

Here is another FREE book for all of you!  I am really enjoying the Alpha Horde books!  Each one ends up with an alpha male wrapped around the little finger of his human omega.  They always have some issues to work along the way, but the ladies manage to get directly in the path of the male who is the perfect alpha for them.  This book appears to be no exception.  Unfortunately, it is only part one, so we see the alpha and his omega start to make a connection, but we haven’t actually been given the rest of the story yet.  I can’t wait until the next part of this book comes out and the next book in the Alpha Horde series comes out.

I love this!  The author did a fantastic job of showing the gentle side of the alpha and the fact that he has a kind of precognition makes him mysterious. Kate may put up defenses, but they are not real. Already we can see that she will give in. I can’t wait to read part 2!

Although these two did not get off to the best start, okay he was trying to get rid of the animal shelter that the town loved so much, they end up having a HEA for the ages.  Matthew quickly changes his mind on the animal shelter when he purchases his mate at the charity auction to help out the animal shelter.  Through the slow course of their romance, Matthews true self starts to show.  He might have been pegged a bad guy because of his reasons for coming into town, but his willingness to help the locals, the animal shelter and his own mate soon make him the hero.  At least in the eyes of his new friends and the 3 special ladies in his life.

I loved this!  I enjoyed the gentle tone of two mature people learning how to love each other through all of their actions. It especially warmed my heart that Matthew just accepted Sian’s daughters as his own. No matter what the past was, neither of them are willing to let it drive their future. I felt so bad for Hera throughout this book.  She was taken from her world against her will, although it is not like she had a great existence on earth, and then she is to be mated with a man who makes it clear that he is in love with someone else.  How terrible for her!  Especially when she actually starts to fall for him.

Damon comes to his senses almost too late.  How is Hera supposed to believe that he truly loves her when all along he has professed his love for the queen.  The ending of this book is perfect when the two of them finally find their HEA.  I can’t wait to read the next book!

This is a perfect addition to the Moonlight & Magic book series!  I love that Cy finally finds a family to replace the one that was taken from him.  He is brash and bold, but under that he has a gooey softness that is just right for a family man.  I think it is fate that not only gave him a woman of his own, but two children as well.  I hope there will be more books in this series.  I really enjoy the characters and the struggles that they face and overcome.

The perfect steamy read!  I love that these three felt the same way about each other, but because they never shared that information they would have let the opportunity pass them by.  The guys are a little older than their lady love, but that is okay.  They wait until she is of age and then a bit more to be sure she has had a chance to grow.  I’m not sure why guys seem to think they know what is best for the ladies in their lives, but in this case it was almost to their unhappy ending.

She might not have meant it to work out that way, but by accepting an invite from another guy, it forced her true mates to finally take action and make their love known and their relationship permanent.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the end of this book to find another complete book following the first.  Those are the kinds of surprises I love.  I love the way all of the characters interact with each other.  It is almost a love hate relationship in that they tend to be more snarky than loving.  Don’t get me wrong, they love and they love hard, but they have no issue with calling someone out and making their life miserable if it is sure to get a laugh or annoy them.  Okay, I admit it, they are just my kind of people.  😊 

This book is so relatable, I found myself laughing constantly one minute and ready to defend the main characters in the next.  You just feel like you are being drawn into the story and included in their lives.  To me those are the best kind of books, the ones that truly take you to different places and make it hard to leave, even to go to the facilities.  😊  I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

I love this cover!  It highlights the model and gives just enough color to draw your attention.  The story inside is just as sweet.  An alpha lion who cannot take his place as the alpha of his pride until he finds his mate, which law says must be a lion, is confronted with a harsh reality when she ends up being a snow leopard.  But that is okay with him, he will give up the pride to keep up his mate.  Luckily, he has strong people backing his corner.  It might take a little strong arming, but eventually the good of the pride see him through to his HEA.

I loved this little book!  It was a perfect read right around the holiday season.  It was a little different than my normal read from this author as she usually writes paranormal romance and this a contemporary romance.  These two were clearly meant to be together.  It’s a shame they had to reconnect over such a terrible incident, but reconnect they did and the handsome hunk lives right down the hallway.  There may be a crazy stalker, some secret Santa gifts, and a pair of candy cane thigh highs to go with those killer heels, but in the end the HEA is sweet and meant to last.

This book was so different from the other books I’ve enjoyed by this author and I loved it!  The fact that these two found their way back to each other after so many years apart is delicious. Dane is completely taken by Caitlyn from the moment she crash lands in his arms and his love continues to grow until they reach their HEA. Only her inexperience and her previous bad relationship ending keep her from jumping into their love with everything she had. I was so happy for them both when they managed to overcome the bad and continue to grow the love that they both feel.

I really love these little kitchen witch stories.  They are short, but pack so much punch in them.  I especially enjoyed this one.  I love that our male lead opened a bakery, in the exact spot as her failed one, just to draw out his lady love.  He doesn’t even like running a bakery, but he knew it was the only way to bring her back.  You can feel the love in the fact that he treated her like she had never been away.  She got to see how much everyone in the town missed her and she got to find out the truth between her past failure.

I am not usually one for dystopian societies, but I figured why not try this one since it is written by Renee Rose.  I was not disappointed!  This book has the perfect alpha male and his perfect counterpart.  Too bad he almost waits to long to realize that she doesn’t need promises she only needs him.  Of course, it took her being taken by the enemy for him to finally understand what she truly means to him.  He saves the day for everyone, so we will forgive him that.  As it is a Renee Rose book, you know the intimate scenes have to be some of the steamiest around.  Ms Rose knows how to do passion and dominance right.  😊

As typical for me, I read this book before I read the rest of the series. What can I say?  The cover and blurb just called to me. I mean who can resist a guy who is not just sexy and dangerous, but steps up to the plate when a baby is thrust onto his doorstep and promptly falls in love with her. Awww!  If I still had ovaries, they would be tingling.

Then you have her mother. A strong woman who has survived so much and yet still has love and vulnerability in her heart. As a single mom myself, I can 100% relate to the struggles she has overcome and the fear for her daughter’s safety. Trust me that never goes away. The author captured that sense of self-doubt and loneliness a single mom wears like a cloak and covers with a shield of strength and bravado perfectly.

Ms Langlais has outdone herself with this dynamite pair and she didn’t disappoint in her cast of supporting characters either. I’m sure many are repeats from earlier books, but they are joined by a lovely group of ladies who can hold their own when danger strikes. Oh and look!  Ms Langlais is creating a spin-off to the Bad Boys featuring the Killer Moms. I can’t wait!  But first I think I will go back and read the rest of the Bad Boys books.

Another win for the author!  This book is packed with action and emotion. I love how the bachelor meets the baby and suddenly is less the bachelor and more the dad. Their road may be long and fraught with danger, but once this killer Daddy finds love in his heart, there is no way he’s giving up the love of his life and her little diva. The author did a fantastic job of keeping the story interesting while creating an emotional depth that is missing from most of real life. I can’t wait to read the next book!

I am in love with this series!  I have read a few of Ms Jacks Beast Mates series, but none of them had me all in so much as the Horde does.  I don’t know if it is the constant back and forth between the brothers or the entire Alpha Male aspect of it, but this was one enjoyable read.  I am already looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

This is one of those series that I hope goes on and on for a very long time.  I love how Ms Jacks took a lady from earth and plopped her on another planet.  She didn’t leave her there though without a means to thrive.  Nope, she makes sure these lovely ladies fall right into the paths of the males who are meant to be their mates.  It takes them a bit to overcome the hurdle of not being able to communicate and relearning what the males have been taught all of their lives, but they make it work.

I hope there will be one of these books for all of the brothers and Vemlox!  What a great read!  She may not have wanted to end up on an alien planet, but at least it saved her from whoever spiked her drink. I enjoyed it as these two overcame the obstacles towards their HEA and when Kingsley finally realized she loved the big guy. I think I figured out the king’s secret, but only time will tell. I look forward to reading the next book.

I truly enjoyed this book!  It is a great addition to the Somewhere, Texas series. I love that Erin found and connected with her kindred. It’s so sad that her aunt never found one and her own father made terrible choices that almost cost her and her mother their lives. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Somewhere.

This book was more than it seemed.  I thought it was going to be a fairly quick read when I picked it, but once I started reading it there were so many twists and turns that it was anything but a quick lead.  I was not disappointed as the story was exciting, well written and kept me tied to my Kindle app until I was at the last page.  I wasn’t sure when I first started reading because the guy seemed like he was a real play boy.  I guess when you are that old you really don’t know any other way to be or maybe you have separated yourself from your emotions.  It didn’t end up being that way though.  Once he realized he needed the surrogate to continue with his life, he was 100% in the relationship.

I am not sure if I will read the rest of the books in the series yet.  But if I do, it will probably be a while from now.  Click on the book above to see what you make of it.

Wow!  Rex is such an ass!  But he is one of those bad boys that we love to hate.  He is so sure of his place in this world that he doesn’t take the time to look below his perceptions at anyone.  Even to his own detriment.  Of course, Lena’s dad is no better.  Ms Sullivan did an excellent job of portraying him as the billionaire who doesn't understand that anyone else should have feelings.  Obviously, he felt deeply for Rex’s mom and even when they parted ways he felt the need to support her sons, but he put his own daughter in a position where she had to beg someone else for something that should have been hers.  I loved that we got to see him crack a little bit when he realized that she would put a hold on her dreams to make it own her own instead of begging for someone else's approval.  It’s a good thing Rex’s brother is not nearly the ass Rex is.  He may laugh and joke, but he knows when to crack down and come up with his own assessment of a person and situation.

If for no other reason than the baby’s sake, I am glad these two finally were able to overcome the past and find their HEA.  I hope that Ms Sullivan will be writing about Rex’s brother soon.  I feel like he is someone who will have an epic romance.

This is a cute little love story. Of course, I was completely frustrated by Rex through most of the book. He really couldn’t see past his own ego and he didn’t even try to. Poor Lena was denied everything she worked so hard for and then had an unexpected surprise. I was cheering at the end when she finally realized that Rex was serious about them becoming a family. I hope that Lena’s friend Casey has her own story, she needs to have her own someone special.

I loved this cute little cozy mystery!  There was so much going on behind the scenes that the momentum of the book never dragged.  I mean you guys know me!  I am all about the steamy, raunchy sex scenes, but this book didn’t need more than the couple of kisses the two leads shared. 

All my favorite points were hit, Werewolf, witch, ghosts, surprise half-sibling, and unexpected windfall inheritance, garden gnomes…...  Not to mention dear Aunt Polly, who is my favorite kind of crazy, and her pet lobster.  I cannot wait until the rest of the siblings have their own books!  Hopefully we see more of those nosy little garden gnomes.  😊

I absolutely love this book!  It’s full of so much laughter, and crazy, that you manage to get through the painfully sad parts and onto the HEA. I think my favorite line is when Dante says, “It’s probably a shipment of refugee gnomes seeking sanctuary “. It just fit perfectly with the scene and had me rolling on the floor laughing. I look forward to reading the next book and in the meantime, I’ll catch on the other books featuring Aunt Polly.

I love this!  You can feel the energy and anxiety as Owen and Ava struggle to make their way to the portal before it closes. The imagery is so great that you can hear everyone crying out and the desperation as the people around them try to save themselves and their loved ones. It’s a perfect lead up to Bearly Hanging On.

I loved this little Christmas story.  I love how Ms Anderson showed Sarah escaping from the cult and their ultimate downfall.  Although, I wanted to reach in and slap Sazar when he let her return to the wolves because of his own inability to deal with the events that occurred on their mission.  Thank goodness for his son who refused to let his second mother parish because his dad was hung up on propriety and not reality.

What a wonderful way to write about the inner workings of a cult and the terror and pain that occurs. I love that Sarah was able to escape the cult. She got to Sazar when she needed to be there most. Thank Goddess he was able to return the favor later, otherwise I’m sure she would not have been long for this world. This book explores the pain of loss, a completely different culture and the difficulty in moving on.  How cute that the 4-year-old loved Sarah from the beginning and I love that Shad made another appearance. I can’t wait to see what his story will be. This book was a great tale for the holidays and I couldn’t put it down until the very end.

Ms Langlais did such a great job on portraying a soldier returning from war with PTSD in this book.  She showed us how the anxiety attacks hit and the coping methods he had learned to overcome them.  He was doing so good on his own, he might not have thought so, when his mate came back into his life.  She was the glue he needed to really turn that corner for the better.

I know it is hard for people to both admit their mistakes and give out forgiveness, but these two manage it with such grace.  Of course, they had a beautiful little 4-year-old to make the need to reconnect so much more important.

This book had so many real-life comparisons, beginning with the soldier who returned from war with PTSD. The author did a fantastic job of touching on this subject, but not dwelling on it. She gave Caleb the chance to overcome it and the chance to finally get his HEA with Renny. I love the way old enemies became friends, secrets were revealed, and the family grew. I can’t wait to see what is next for everyone in Bitten Point.

And then Martin walked into her life…  Something drew her to him like nobody’s business from the first glance.  Fortunately, he felt the draw as well.  With a flare that only comes with maturity, thank you Ms Chant for giving me hope that 40 isn’t too old to start anew, these two manage to overcome multiple disruptions and find their way in the world of fated mates.

This is such a sweet love story. Martin lost his wife, but not his mate and Tiffani was finally breaking free from the mold her ex insisted she fit in. The connection they share is such that I think they would have eventually gotten together even if they weren’t mates. Discovering they were mates just sped up the journey. It was so nice to see the rest of the herd again. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I am so sad that this is the last book in this series, I am assuming it is anyway since all three brothers found their HEA.  Each book was better than the last.  I loved that, in this book, the quiet woman who felt she had nothing to give to anyone and the rough, lonely man who feared the beast hid within his skin are a perfect match.  They complement each other so completely that one cannot exist without the other.  The two of them manage to do what no one else would have been able to and they didn’t have to use force or fear to reach their goal.

I loved this book!  The entire way through the series Cohen and Ashe were lead characters playing in the background. We knew they had history and they both were hurting, but we never knew exactly why. Their story slowly unfolds in this book until we see them reach their HEA. I love that the other couples are still prominent in this book and I really wish there would be another book after this one.

Another win for Ms Lawley!  I feel so bad for poor Don.  I mean the poor guy didn’t ask to be bronzed right in the middle of town, okay that wasn’t his finest hour and he was acting like an ass, but come on it hardly seems fair that such a drastic punishment was met out.  I really think that Baba Yaga had something to do with it.  I mean she was the one who add all of the ornamentation which finally got him free.  She is such a crafty little match maker.

I love that this book is eerily similar in one regard to a well known and loved story.  It’s actually kind of perfect, especially when we see how lovely his mate ends up being.  Too bad she was a little shocked at her luck as well, it kind of slowed down the process, but it made for a great story.  I mean, I can honestly say if my rub on a man’s tushy unbronzed a statue I would be a little shocked as well.  I’m not sure how I would react.  But hey if there wasn’t a little luck involved it wouldn’t be the Lucky Magic series.

I’m so glad that Don has found his true lady love and been released from his bronze prison. It’s a shame he had to be that way to begin with, but he probably needed it to be able to see his lady when she squeezed his tushy. It took her a little longer to see the truth, but with the help of her family and new friends she gets there in the end. Together they have a HEA that will melt your heart. I can’t wait to see what Baba Yaga has in store for the Kelly boys and Cricket next.

This book was a joy to read.  A short, sweet Christmas story that makes your heart stutter and your stomach rumble.  I loved that these two felt an instant draw to each other even before their eyes actually connected.  The author did a fantastic job of reeling me in and holding me captive until the very end.

There is no evidence that this book is part of a series, but I found myself desperately looking for another book to read after it.

Yes, I know!  You guys are probably going crazy from all of the kindred books I have been reading.  But I have really fallen in love with the entire series.  Each book has a strong alpha male and his equally strong female mate.  What is there not to love about a match fated by the Goddess.  Such as this couple.  The Goddess made sure they were where they needed to be to mate.  Without her intervention, neither would have taken the step on their own.

I really enjoy that the Goddess puts her hand in the mix to lead the couples where they need to be.  She especially enjoys including the children.  Sometimes that in its self is enough to loosen the parent up where the mate stands.  The instant love the 4-year-old showed for our alpha male in this book is the only thing that could have made the mom change her mind about her stance on her mate.  The absolute love and caring he feels for the both of them is evident in his every action.  The best things about these books is the guaranteed HEA.  I actually found myself shedding a few tears when these two finally accepted fates decree.

What appears as a chance meeting, seems more like a set up the further along we read.  But hey, sometimes the people closest to us know what we need more than we do.  In true Devlin style, what started as a would-be disaster ends as a win and a HEA.  Chantal helped Dylan solve his case and learned something special about herself.  Having a good man at home doesn’t stop you from making your own way in this world.
