Feed the authors!

Have you fed your favorite author today?

This makes me think of author’s as wild animals, and like wild animals, authors can become extinct if their readers don’t keep them well fed.  Feeding an author goes so far beyond just purchasing the books they create, it includes the reviews we write, the books we suggest to other readers, and the simple act of following them on social media.  Author’s anxiously put their babies in your hands when they hit publish, a baby they have spent hundreds of hours working on and have put their heart and soul into.  The only way they can really judge how well they did in our eyes is if we tell them.

When I first switched from physical books to reading them on my IPad mini using the Kindle app, I had no idea about leaving a review.  When I read a book, I didn’t make sure to flip all the way to the end and if the review box popped up I just put in my star rating.  Who knew that was actually meaningless as far as rating a book!  I Know, Right!  WTH!!!!  But it’s true.

After all these years and all of those fabulous books, I feel like a terrible customer.  I mean leaving a review is basically the same as tipping your waitress for good service, and I would never dream of leaving a restaurant without some kind of tip.  But I have been!  I have been enjoying all of these wonderful books and letting my favorite authors starve.  I can only hope that they can forgive me.

I have slowly been working on leaving reviews on the books I have already read, while trying not to completely neglect the new releases that come out every day.  I mean I have thousands of books on my kindle app (Seriously! Thousands!)  Okay some of them I didn’t really like the first time, so regretfully I will not be re-reading those.  Would you really want me to write that kind of review anyway?  But I have denied so many authors their hard-earned review that it is going to take some time to catch up.

It’s actually one of the reasons I started my Featured Series blog posts.  With these posts, I can include all of the books I am re-reading and reviewing at the same time.  Seriously!  I feel it is my duty as a customer to re-read all of the books in a series once I get started.  Geez, okay!  You are right!  I just love most of them that much, plus you pick up on so many things that you missed the first time when you re-read a book.  And it is just not the same if you skip any, well and I love them all.

For the author's sake, try not to be like me.  Be sure to tip your authors and leave them reviews on their books.  How else is an author supposed to feed their souls with the knowledge that you thoroughly enjoyed the hours of hard labor they put into their literary masterpiece?  No matter what your review is (Well unless you are a total douche canoe and put really hurtful nasty things in when you can express a negative opinion with just as much kindness as you can a positive one) the authors will be glad you did.  Well I am back to my list of books to read, it just seems to keep on growing.

Featured Author - Milana Jacks

Featured Author
Milana Jacks

Hey Peeps!  I know it has been a while since I featured our last author, but I am getting back into the grove after some medical concerns.  Umm, I feel like everyone uses that excuse at least once it their life, but I swear it is true.  Just ask my mouth.  😊

Anywho, our next featured author is Ms Milana Jacks.  If any of you are into the Dystopian side of Romance, then this is an author you already know or are going to want to follow.  The first book I read of Ms Jacks’ was book one in her Ice Age Dragon Brotherhood.  Ms Jacks has managed to bring us to a dystopian world and then give us the alpha males that we would need to survive there.  Umm and these big guys turn into dragons, or maybe wolves, and they have just the equipment every girl set on survival needs to be happy in this mixed up world.  Oh and, once they believe they have found the one (come on they are guys you know they are going to fight that), they make her their number one priority.

Official published review:
When dragons can save the world
Oh my! I absolutely love this new series! From the snarky dragons, with just the right equipment, the wolves, doves and the women who will be the spirit of the dragons. There are so many twists and turns that you will never lose interest and, like me, you will be more than ready to read the next installment.
5 stars

OMG! Have you seen her Alpha Horde books yet?  Those guys might be green, but they sure do know how to bring on the alpha when they find their omega.  Okay, they might have a little bit of a skewed outlook on women, but you have to give them some slack as they are from another world.  You guys are going to want to read this series, but you may not want to read them in public, well unless you are going to bring a spare pair of panties that is.

Official published review:
The alpha and omega
I hope there will be one of these books for all of the brothers and Vemlox! What a great read! She may not have wanted to end up on an alien planet, but at least it saved her from whoever spiked her drink. I enjoyed it as these two overcame the obstacles towards their HEA and when Kingsley finally realized she loved the big guy. I think I figured out the king’s secret, but only time will tell. I look forward to reading the next book.

Ms Jacks has so many books that I could gush about, but let’s get down to the actual interview part of this feature.  I think you guys are going to like Ms Jacks even more after you see how her mind works.

When did you first realize you wanted to be an author? When I wanted to read dystopian romance with lots of sex and have already read all I could get my hands on.

How long does it typically take you to write one of your books? 2-3 weeks for 1st draft not including the other draft passes before I send it out to Editor.

Do you usually write one book at a time or do you find yourself working on multiple books as your muse takes you? - One at the time. My muse does what I tell her to do.

What is your work schedule like when you are writing? - I wake up at 6, get my kids ready for school, and I'm at my desk by 7:30. I write for 4 hours with 5 min breaks then my brain is done for the day and I mop around the house pretending to be a great housewife.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk? Anal. =D I'm anal about my time and nobody can touch me from 7:30 - about noon. Unless the house is on fire or someone is having a life-threatening emergency, I'm in my hole.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books? Extensive reading both fiction and non-fiction.

When did you write your first book and how old were you? 2016 and I was 36.

What do you like to do when you are not writing? Plan book world dominion and visualize a better future. And read. I read every day.

What does your family think of your writing? It's the best thing that ever happened to Milana.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books? My alpha males. I was surprised how easily I fell into their POV. I'm really an alpha with a pussy, and I learned that from my male leads.

Out of all of the books that you have written, which is your favorite? Blind Beast Mate because it gave me a readership.

What do you think makes a good story? Characters you wanna cheer for and fast pacing.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up? Stand in front of crowds and entertain people. Though I can't sing for shit, and I totally knew that even back then, it didn't stop me from picking up a hairbrush and pretending it's a microphone.

Well what did you think?  Pretty awesome huh!  I may be wrong, but I think with every book she writes she manages to win on the world book dominion front.  Have you read her latest book, Terror?  If that is not a prime example of a goal reached, I don’t know what else could be.

I hope you guys take a little road trip over to Ms Jacks’ website and Facebook page to show her some love.  She is one of my favorite kind of authors in that when you sign up for her newsletter she shares free books with you to show her appreciation.  But don’t stop there, if you head over to her Facebook page she will show you what her newest book is going to be.  Okay, okay, geez I will not keep you in suspense.  We finally get to meet a she alpha and her tasty omega!  Yay!  I can’t wait!

Ms Jacks, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions and share your love of books with us.  As long as you keep writing them, I for one am going to keep reading them.  As always, if you guys click on any of the pictures you can pick the books up on Amazon or check out Ms Jacks' sites.

EXCERPT
Rowan turned her head to find an NYPD badge in front of her face and a man staring down at her from a considerable height. Her stomach did a strange little flip. Detective Nick Grandstaff’s steely gaze held the intensity of a thousand blazing suns. She white-knuckled the edge of the counter. It wasn’t the badge that sent a wave of anxiety through her chest. It was Harriet’s warning. What if his strong mind resisted the serum?
Admit nothing. “Can I help you?”
“Did you notice a man in here earlier, about five foot six inches tall, white-blond hair, slight build?”
“No.” It was hard to speak. Her tongue had swollen in her mouth and grown uncomfortably dry. She uncrossed and crossed her legs against the building tension between them and forced herself to blink. She ended up fluttering her eyelashes. Damn, she had, hadn’t she? She’d fluttered her eyelashes at the detective like a draconic Betty Boop.
“Okay. Thanks.” His eyes narrowed. “Have we met before? You seem familiar.”
“No,” she answered quickly. Too quickly. She shook her head. By the Mountain, she sounded guilty. She reined it in and smiled. Too many teeth. She stopped smiling.
“You’ve never been by the twenty-fourth precinct?”
“No.” A sharp inhale parted her lips. She’d been to the nineteenth precinct when she was arrested, but that was another identity, another name, another face. “No, I don’t think we’ve ever met before.” She forced herself to drink some ice water. “I’d remember you,” she added under her breath.
“Oh.” Nick nodded.
There was a clunk and scrape as the server slid Rowan’s pancakes in front of her and focused on Nick. “Can I get you something, Detective?”
“Coffee. Black. To go.” Nick’s eyes never left Rowan’s face.
“So, uh, what did this blond guy you’re looking for do?”
His crooked grin revealed a chipped molar she found positively endearing. “Just need to ask him some questions.”
“In other words, it’s none of my business.” She rested her chin on her fist.
That crooked grin flashed again, and Rowan almost fell off her stool. She took another sip of ice water.
“Are you sure we haven’t met?” He scratched the side of his neck.
Rowan gulped. The man emitted his own gravity. How could he be human? “Do you make it a habit to approach women in diners and ask them if you’ve met before? It seems like a line better suited for a bar.”
“Excuse me?”
“I’ve told you we haven’t met, twice now.”
He rubbed the back of his neck. “What’s your name?”
“Rowan.”
“Nick.” He leaned a hand against the counter beside her plate, never touching but close enough to set her heart racing. The server returned with a to-go cup and dropped it in front of him.
“Now that we’ve met, maybe we should get to know each other better. Have coffee.”
“You already have coffee.”
“Dinner then.”
She looked down at her ring, the ruby a blood-red reminder of why she needed to stop flirting with this man and eat her breakfast. She was a dragon, and she’d wiped his memories last night. Spending time with him could only lead to disaster.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea.”

Featured Series - New Species - Laurann Dohner

Have you guys read this series yet?  This is another one that is perfect for a fan of Lora Leigh, Susan Bliler, Madison Stevens, and Lacey Thorn. The New Species are designer people, created/enhanced in a lab and not quite human. All they want is to be left alone and allowed to recuperate and thrive, but with all things different, full humans refuse to let that happen.

You guys are going to love the journey as you go through the books and see the characters and the series grow. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, but you will enjoy it more if you read them in order. I have read this series at least three times and my favorite books a few times more. What can I say?  I’m anxiously waiting for the next installment. Just click on any of the books below to grab your copy and start enjoying them today!

Calming his Fury
The New Species are free and they will not be chained again. This new series by Laurann Dohner had me invested from page one. I could feel the pain and struggle of the characters when Ellie and Fury first meet, and Ellie’s confusion and hurt when they reconnect after a misunderstanding. The growth of all of the New Species is such that you know there will be many books to follow. Love and true affection grow throughout the story and before the end I found myself backing Ellie and Fury as if I was truly there. I can’t wait to see which New Species will find their lasting love and happiness next.

An unexpected surprise
This is a great addition to the addictive New Species series. The trials they face mirror the human world with some added stress of being hunted and attacked due to the very differences that make them the perfect alpha males. In this book the love between Slade and Trisha is one we would all wish to find. I love that we continue to watch the characters grow and we even met some new ones. I look forward to seeing who will meet their perfect mate next.

If only we could all manage to be a little valiant
I love this book! I think it’s great how Valiant has overcome so much hardship and he finally has a chance at true happiness. Of course, being completely new to the outside world he managed to go about it in the wrong way. Tammy is such a doll. She is kind and gentle, but when she has to she can stand up for herself. When the two of them are together they are the perfect happy couple. I am so glad to say that they manage to get the HEA that they so richly deserve. I am excited to read the next one in the series.

Lead by example
I love this book!  Justice is the perfect leader for his people, but he has to hide his soft heart to protect himself. Jessie is the perfect woman for him, she grew up in the political arena, already loves his people and has a backbone that just won’t quit. These two deserved the HEA they have found. Together they are an unbeatable team. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author.

Open your mind to the possibility
What a great book! The author did a fantastic job of taking us through the emotional wringer with this one. We felt everything from despondency to love and tears fell unchecked when they finally reach their HEA. I know this book is one I will read again and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Official published review:
We must overcome
This book is another one of the author’s amazing alpha males. I love that each of these males come from the same situation and yet the author continues to come up with new and interesting stories to tell about them. With each new book I fall more in love with the New Species and their plight to make their way in our world. I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

I think this book has what may be my favorite quote from the entire series:

Official published review:
Even the mighty will fall
Tiger is one of my favorite New Species!  I love that the author has finally given him a mate who completely threw him off his game from the very first breath he gave to her. I love how they both struggled to get to their HEA and how they totally embraced it once they got there. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Official published review:
Sometimes doing the right thing can be the wrong thing
This book is another wonderful addition to this series. Each time I read it, I get so caught up in the emotional roller coaster that I find myself crying for the last couple of chapters. It might be weird, but I think an author has absolutely outdone themselves when they are able to get you so emotionally invested in their characters that you cry at the HEA. I am looking forward to the next book by this author.
5 stars

Official published review:
Find comfort together
I am so happy that the author told this story. I was really hoping that one of the gift females would find their HEA. The author couldn’t have picked a better mate for Shadow or Beauty, both of them had been through so much. It’s a shame that they had to suffer a few setbacks before they found their happiness. I think the author did a fantastic job with this book and I can’t wait to read the next one.
5 stars

Official published review:
Bringing Joy back
I couldn’t help but find myself completely submersed in this book while I was reading it. The author did such a fantastic job that I found myself pulling an all-nighter before I knew it. I love the thought and detail that was put into the creation of this story and each character within the pages. With every book in the series, my love for the New Species grows. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author.

Official published review:
Learning the difference
Get ready for an emotional roller coaster with this one. If you have been wondering how all the humans could be evil, this book answers some questions. The author brought us this perfect example of how for every ten bad people there is at least one good one. This character has suffered so much to see the New Species freed while showing them nothing but love and acceptance. I was never so happy to see a couple reach their HEA. I am excitedly awaiting the next book in the series.

Official published review:
Light from the dark
Darkness is just one of those people that you are hoping he gets his HEA from the first time he’s introduced. He tries so hard to put up a wall, but his soft heart occasionally slips out. The author created the perfect mate for this alpha male and made him have to work to keep her. I loved it!  This book has everything I have come to expect from this author and is one you won’t want to miss. The next book is already calling my name.

Official published review:
Smile at the unexpected
I feel like I say this after every book, but wow!  How exciting that Smiley found his mate. It’s a little shocking how they first came together, but his love and devotion is everything I have come to expect from a primate New Species. The author put a lot of action to this book and it drove my love of the series up even more. So many New Species who need to find their HEA. I can’t wait to see who is next!

Let me hold your hand
This story may not be as long as the other books in the series, but I was lost in the world of the New Species from the first page. I loved how the author used elements from other books and incorporated them into this one. These two characters have seen the darkness in the world and still managed to find their HEA. If that doesn’t instill hope, I don’t know what would. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

The dead shall live again
This book is such an emotional experience. I couldn’t help but cry during several parts. The author outdid herself when she took on the different aspects of this story. I love how it all came together and how the New Species rallied behind the characters. I can’t wait to read the next book the author creates in this series.

About the Author - Laurann Dohner

NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

I'm a full-time wife, mother, and author. I've been lucky enough to have spent over two decades with the love of my life and look forward to many, many more years with Mr. Laurann. I'm addicted to iced coffee, the occasional candy bar (or two), and trying to get at least five hours of sleep at night.

I love to write all kinds of stories. I think the best part about writing is the fact that real life is always uncertain, always tossing things at us that we have no control over, but when writing you can make sure there's always a happy ending. I love that about being an author. My favorite part is when I sit down at my computer desk, put on my headphones to listen to loud music to block out everything around me, so I can create worlds in front of me.
