Chasing the sunshine - Adirondacks edition
I apologize for
ghosting you all this weekend, but I took the kidlets on vacation to the
Adirondacks. They might take exception to this title, I guess an 18-year-old
and 2-17 year olds like to be considered “adults”, but that is why I do it.
They need to get used to my weird ways now, before they are responsible for my
care and comfort.
Anywho, we went on
this trip with the express purpose of going rail biking with the Revolution Rail company. For those who don’t know, you take this little buggy, they have 2
seaters for you romantics (sigh, I wish I was one), which sits on the train
tracks and you peddle along.
You get to take a
peaceful ride through the woods, and then go over the Hudson River. As you can
see, the view is spectacular. This trip is about 7 miles round trip, on mostly
flat track. It’s the perfect outdoor adventure for all ages and exercise
levels. It’s a pretty good lower ab and leg workout too.
While we were making
our way to the Adirondacks, we had free time to fill, as we couldn’t get our
Rail Biking reservation until 4:30 on Sunday, so we left a day later than we
thought and filled our time with a few detours. We started with breakfast at Lumberjack’sKitchen in Duncannon PA, where we met the perfect waitress, Val.
Then we backtracked
to Lake Tobias and went on a safari. We saw so many animals, up close and
personal, we missed out on purchasing food, but we still were able to touch
them. This adventure was a lot of walking, but worth every drop of sweat. We
got to see the giraffe, the reptiles and the petting zoo, before we headed out
for our next adventure.
We stayed at this
nice hotel, which used to be a Ramada, but is in the process of transitioning
to a Baymont. I can only imagine how nice it will be once the transition is
complete.
We were up bright
and early on Sunday morning for a 10:30 date with the river at Tubby TubesTubing. With Phil and Drew as our guides, we made it safely back on a bus named
Munson with lots of laughs and our inner geek satisfied with conversations on
Doctor Who. This is a fantastic journey with lots of arm and ab exercise. The
scenery is beautiful and, for those brave few, you can jump off the rocks into
the water. Be prepared to get wet either way. Don’t forget to rent a
cooler to stay hydrated.
Well we had a
fabulous time on our adventure. I did learn a few things though. 1-school buses
can be refurbished for so many uses. 2-always take screenshots of your turn by
turn directions, there and back, because you never know when the cell
connection will be dropped. (Just a hint, Adirondacks park has no cell
service) 3-you will find yourself on a lot of buses, a lot!
I would totally
recommend any/all of these destinations to those who love a good adventure and
don’t mind a physical workout. We plan on going back again to find some more
hidden gems. We did spend a few hours in Lake George Village, stopping at MollyMalone’s Irish store and grabbing dinner at the Lake George Boardwalk Restaurant, but there
was so much more to see and do.
No matter how you
spend your summer, I hope you are enjoying it and chasing the sunshine. As always, just click on the pictures or the names of locations to find out more information about each activity/location.
Happy Reading
Sydney
