To pre-order or not to pre-order

Do you prefer when authors provide pre-order links?  Or when you are trolling on Amazon and, Bam!, you see a new release you weren’t expecting?

I never used to pre-order, but I got burned by one of Maya Banks’ books before and I have ever since.  I fell in love with her series, was salivating for the latest book, had it saved in my Amazon to be purchased with list, but when I finally went to pre-order it it was no longer an Ebook.  Ha, na, say what?????  I had never heard of such a thing and had never pre-ordered anything before, so I thought maybe it was normal, or possibly a glitch.  Was I ever wrong!

I checked her website, newsletter and social media outlets and there was no mention of a limited number of books being released so I waited.  Then wouldn’t you know, they no longer had the paper back up for pre-order, but still nothing to indicate a limited quantity, so again, I waited.  Finally, we get to release day, and there were no purchase links.  Not even for the hard back!  WTH!!!!  I was devastated!  Still nothing on any of her platforms about limited quantities or if the book will be released again.  Nothing!!!  I still long for that book, sigh, my collection is incomplete without it.

As you can imagine, now I pre-order religiously, if I just have to have the book.  Ahh come on, don’t be like that, you know every book from my favorite authors is either pre-ordered or a screen shot on my phone, so I don’t miss release day.

As you can see by the list, I love a lot of authors and they are super active.  I have also not given up on Maya Banks, now I just make sure that I pre-order her books.  I have hopes that eventually I will be able to get the book I really want, but only time will tell.
