Featured Author – Mandy M. Roth

For those of you who are frequent followers of my blog, this next author probably needs no introduction.  But you know me, I can’t help singing my guests accolades.  So please join me in welcoming NY Times and USA Today Bestselling author Mandy M. Roth to the reading nook.

Today is a very important day for Ms. Roth, she just released her newest book out into the world.  And let me tell you, it is fantastic!  Ms. Roth has teamed up with 12 other authors to create PWF – Paranormal Women’s Fiction.  They call themselves the Fab13 and with names like Michelle M. Pillow, Robyn Peterman, and Eve Langlais, just to name a few, how could they not be?  For more information join their Facebook group or go to the individual author’s pages.

Alright time to get off that tangent and back to Ms. Roth’s newest book.  It is one you are definitely going to enjoy.  It’s all about starting over after 40 and Poppy becoming who she was meant to be.  The book is filled with humor and so many moving parts you don’t realize you’re on the last page until it’s 4am, when you are supposed to be at work at 3am, until the very end.  Oh, maybe that’s just me.

Well anyway, you are not going to want to miss it.  Especially when she already has 2 more pre-orders set up for the next 2 books.

A Paranormal Women's Fiction Romance Novel (PWF)
When it rains, it pours...

On the eve of my fortieth birthday, Fate has given me a second chance at the happiness I once knew in the odd Southern town of Grimm Cove. But only if I can come to terms with some rather eye-opening revelations. Supernaturals are a real thing. I'm a witch. My high school sweetheart, who happens to be the Chief of Police in Grimm Cove, is my fated mate and a wolf-shifter. Ghosts exist and can be very nosy and meddlesome. Someone is murdering witches left and right. And last but not least, my ex-husband's barely legal arm candy is taking fatal attraction to new levels of Hell.

I'm no shrinking violet, and with the help of my best friends, I'm going to live life on my terms--come Hell, high water, or magikal mishaps.

Don't miss out on the next book in the Grimm Cove Series World, Hexing with a Chance of Tornadoes!

Romance book contains: sassy women who put their friends first, know how to laugh, and have a good time despite the lemons life has tossed their way. While they may be forty, they don't see themselves as too old for anything, and they're not ready for society to put them out to pasture. They're quick to speak their truth with whatever colorful phrase they so choose, but no one is dropping any "F-bombs" in these. Keep in mind, these books are first and foremost paranormal romances, which means that while the women are tough and able to hold their own with any demon out there, they do find true love with the man that is right for each of them. If you're all about fated mates, BFFs, old flames being rekindled, and laughing until your sides split (or if you happen to be over 40 like the author--until you tinkle a little), these books are for you. Yes, there are some sexy scenes in these books, but no one has any "red room of pain" or anything. Each book focuses on a new couple, and each gets their happily ever after (HEA). So, buckle up and get ready to take a trip to the supernatural filled town of Grimm Cove. It's going to be one "spell" of a ride!

A new beginning
There are so many examples of why I continue to read this author’s works between the pages of this book. I love the characters and the humor that is a foundation of their personalities, the story is full of the excitement and details that is a true hallmark of the author’s writing style, and I enjoyed that the characters are all over 40 and finally finding their place in the world. This book is the perfect representation of the new PWF collection and a fantastic beginning to a brand-new series. I can’t wait to read the next book and see what happens with the rest of the characters in Grimm Cove. I just know it’s going to be amazing.

You guys are really going to have to bear with me here because I just know this intro is going to get long.  Ms. Roth has so many amazing books and I would love to share them all with you.  Plus, did you know Ms. Roth uses several pen names?  Yep!  Just check out this book she wrote as Reagan Hawk.  It is actually the 3rd in the series, but one of my favorites.  At only 48 pages, it’s super short but like all her books it is intense and keeps you locked to your Kindle until the very end.

Paranormal Futuristic Shifter MFM / MMF Romance

Utan oversees one of the houses of pleasure on planet Ralen. He does the duty required of him but harbors no desire to find release in a woman many seek comfort for coin with. When his brother asks for his help in finding a small slip of a woman who came from a slave trader vessel, Utan rushes to aid Altan. He wasn’t in search of a mate, a woman of his own, but he can’t resist the urge to lay claim to her even at the expense of his brother’s future.

Reya had it all. The promise of love, of a future, of happiness. It was all based on lies. Lies that left her in the hands of slave traders. When she finds herself on a strange planet with powerful men who can shift into beasts and who are in the market for strong stock to serve their every sexual whim, she knows she’ll be given back to the traders to face certain death, so she makes a run for it—straight into the arms of two brothers. One who owns a brothel and the other who fights his inner beast with all he has. The three of them must find a way to come together if they’re to make it work. Unfortunately, not everyone has their best interests at heart.

Not everyone dislikes the weak
Another great addition to the Beast Masters series. Altan wants only to help Reya, but she mistakes his shock at her lung condition as disgust. Utan has never been swayed by the women in his house of pleasure, but Reya calls to him. Once they overcome their misunderstandings and survive an almost catastrophe, they all manage to find their HEA. I hope there will be more in this series.

Oh Wow!  I didn’t even realize that the book was getting ready to celebrate a birthday.  On the 24th it will have been out in the world for 7 years.  You guys should totally grab a copy to help the characters celebrate their birthday.

So, the other name Ms. Roth writes under is Kennedy Kovit.  These books are more contemporary then her normal fare, but not to fear, they still contain her amazing ability to provide a story we love, hot steamy scenes, and characters that stay with you way beyond the time it takes to read them.

Just look at this next book, it is about a character that I just felt drawn to in the previous books.  What can I say?  I love stories about the broken, hard cases who finally find their HEA.  Now his lady doesn’t make it easy for him, but who can blame her?  The title kind of says it all.

Kaleb is a notorious lady’s man. He’s walking sin and not afraid to brag about the fact. Hell, he’d put it on a t-shirt if he bothered keeping one on long enough for anyone to read it. He’s used to getting who and what he wants. When he finds himself face–to-face with a spitfire of a challenge—his first love who is back in town, waiting tables at his favorite watering hole—everything changes. Hotter than a platter full of sin at a church picnic, Erica has him tied in knots, and if he plays his cards right, he’ll have her tied to his bed soon enough.

Two lost souls finding their way back home
I loved this book! In the other books in the series we could tell that something was going on with Kaleb, but we didn’t know exactly what. I love that as soon as Erica is back in his life he is done with the revolving door that makes up his bedroom. I even loved that he asked her to marry him knowing it will take more time for her to get on board with it. We would all be so lucky to be that person for the person we love.

Now I would be totally remiss if I didn’t mention at least one of Ms. Roth’s I-Ops books, that is kind of what she is known for.  But is was so hard to narrow it down to just one.  Especially since I had the Immortal Ops, Paranormal and Security Intelligence (PSI-Ops), PSI-Ops Shadow Agents, I-Ops:  Crimson Ops (better known as the Fang Gang), and the Immortal Outcasts series to choose from.  So, I decided to go with one of my favorites.  I find myself reading this particular book over and over again, maybe it’s because both characters seem to have gotten the raw end of the deal.  Who knows?  I usually lean towards the shifters, but there is just something about Ms. Roth’s vampires that keep calling me back for more.

He can barely resist the temptation of Jessie Buchanan as it is. Finding out she's been subjected to testing at the hands of madmen, sets his demon on edge, and ignites his hunger for her. He'll do whatever it takes to protect her and the precious cargo she's carrying.

Not by the normal means
I don’t know why, but of all the I-Ops books, the fang gang ones are my favorite. It could be because the author manages to take these ancient men, who are often stuck in the ways of the past, and gives them these hilarious personalities and causes them to have fun at their own expense. Regardless, the author has continued the action and adventure with this book, which is so full of research and humor. It’s obvious that the author put a lot of time and effort into creating this amazing book and the awesome HEA. I am looking forward to the next book by this author.

Wow!  Such an amazing read.  Sigh.  I feel a re-read is in my future.  Oh, who am I kidding, that sigh is really a squee of joy and excitement.

I could really continue introducing Ms. Roth for days with series like the Druid series, Tipping the scales, Bureau of Paranormal Investigation, The Guardians, King of Prey, Tempting Fate, Prospect Springs, Interstellar Alphas, Cyborg Desires, Zodiac Alpha Gatekeepers, and all of her other one off books.  I won’t, as you might get a little irritated with me, but I absolutely could.  I really want to take a few minutes to share her Cozy Mystery books.  Now don’t turn up your nose, the hot scenes might happen behind closed doors, but the humor and details she puts into her characters are still everything we have come to expect from Ms. Roth.  Just look at this book from her Bewitchingly Ever After Series.  No, it is not lost on me that this is also book 3 in a series.  What can I say?  Three seems to be my magic number today.

Welcome to Hedgewitch Cove, Louisiana, where there's no such thing as normal.

Shark-shifter and natural-born hunter, New York (York) Peugeot, has been living under a curse placed upon him by his well-meaning grandmother. She only wanted to help her grandchildren find their mates, not drop a spell of chaos upon their heads. The only way to break the curse is to find his true mate, but York has no desire to seek out some mythical woman. He's already infatuated with a woman he can't even see and who has a pesky little issue of being living-challenged.

As a ghost, Morgan can’t possibly be his mate, or can she? He can’t recall a time in his life when he wasn’t drawn to her in some form or fashion and when he realizes he’s not the only one, he finds himself in a race to save her soul and their future.

What an amazing story full of characters that you are going to enjoy. Well some of them you might remember from our last couple of visits to Hedgewitch Cove, either way you won’t want to miss when they get in on the action to save one of their own. This author does such a great job with her cozy mysteries. They are each packed with memorable characters, a story you won’t be able to put down, love and so many laughs. I really enjoyed this book and I’m already looking forward to the next book when the author sends it our way.

Alright, I think you have heard more than enough from me.  It’s time to let Ms. Roth speak for herself.

When did you first realize you wanted to be an author?

It wasn’t until after I’d written my first book (Daughter of Darkness). I’d always wanted to be the head of a marketing/advertising firm. Writing had never entered my mind as a possibility. While working in marketing it was pointed out that my write ups for products were very sensual and since the products were food, it made me scratch my head a bit. I’d never noticed that before. LOL. Later, I set time aside and wrote a story that I wanted to read. Something that I wasn’t finding out there to fill my reading habit which was and still is massive. When I was all done, I never gave any thought to getting it published but later I did let a close friend look at it. She told me if I didn’t send it off to a publisher, she would. That was just over fifteen years ago.

How long does it typically take you to write one of your books?

I used to write very fast. 100k plus novel in about three or four weeks. But, those novels were full of plot holes, grammatical errors, sloppy character development and so on. It’s why nearly all of them were pulled by me in recent years and redone. I was brand spanking new to writing and I like to say I had on the job training. Over the years I found my voice, learned to write stronger and learned to structure a story/plot. Now with more tools in my writer toolbelt I find it takes me longer to write than before. On average right now it’s taking me anywhere from four months to eight months to write a full-length novel.

Do you usually write one book at a time or do you find yourself working on multiple books as your muse takes you?

I tend to write more than one book at a time. Often I will have one main book I’m working on but when my muse needs to stretch its legs, I open another book. Often many other books end up being moved forward at least slightly during the writing on the main book.

What is your schedule like when you are writing?

It used to be getting up at 3 am and writing until around 7 am. Then a break for coffee, breakfast, emails, admin stuff and back to writing after lunch until dinner time. Now that my children are all college aged and their schedules vary, I don’t have set writing times. I do it as often as I can throughout the day but I do write daily.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I don’t write a book in order. I tended to start a book with the idea that chapter is chapter one. In reality, that chapter is normally chapter four or ten, or who knows what. But it’s never the start of the book in the final product.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

From a variety of places. Sometimes I’ll be listening to a song and my mind will wander right into story making territory. Sometimes I’ll spot a news story that strikes me and makes the wheels in my head spin. Other times I’ll be reading an interesting research book and be inspired or watching a documentary. There really is no limit to what inspires me.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

Back around 2000, I believe.  I’m 44 now and no one wants me trying to do math.  LOL

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I love to read. This baffles Mr. Mandy who thinks if I spent my day writing that I wouldn’t want to read anything. But I love books of any kind and of any genre. I especially love research books. I also love to learn so I tend to always in enrolled in online college course at all times.

What does your family think of your writing?

My boys really don’t know any different. I’ve written for nearly all of their lives. My husband is the reason I kept with writing after I released my first book. Sales were very low for me and it was costing me more to be a published author than I was making. He didn’t let me walk away. He saw something in me that I didn’t know was there. To this day he is still a major driving force of support for me.

My boys will listen to quick plot run downs from me and help me work out any issues I’m having. They’ll help with jokes I’m weaving in. Once I asked my middle son to describe exactly what he goes through when he is about to talk to a pretty girl for the first time. He did. I then took that explanation and description and had it be the reaction one of my characters had to meeting his mate for the first time. I then made sure to acknowledge my son in the dedication. He still laughs about that to this day. He’s gotten “slightly” better with the ladies.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

I was stunned at the amount of time research takes and how much marketing is involved. There is far more to writing a book than just writing a book. That got me by surprise.

Out of all of the books that you have written, which is your favorite?

It’s impossible for me to pick just one. I’d have to say that Wicked Lucidity (which I plan to re-release at some point when it’s cleaned up) has always held a soft spot. So has Executive Decision. All my books are close to my heart. If I could stop that, I’d more than likely write faster LOL.

I am only speaking for myself here, but I really hope you re-release them both in Ebook.  Executive Decision sounds amazing and I would have grabbed a copy if I could have when I was researching for our interview.

What do you think makes a good story?

I think the person telling it has to like what they’re doing and what story they are telling. And I think anytime someone forces a story, it reads that way. If the person writing it, loves it, and it flows, I think that is the making of a great story.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

Star on SNL. No joke. LOL. If that didn’t pan out I had big plans to run and then own my own international advertising firm.

Huh, I could see Ms. Roth as a star on SNL.  At least as one of the writers if not a performer.  She absolutely has the humor and the delivery down if her books are anything to go by.

Before I let Ms. Roth go, I just wanted to share with you a couple of her upcoming books.  One of which we have long been waiting for.  That’s right!  Striker, that kilt wearing bad boy, finally gets his mate.  I don’t know about you, but I am practically bouncing in my seat with excitement.  Hey!  No need to call me out on actually bouncing in my seat.  But can you really blame me?  This is Striker we are talking about.

Paranormal Shifter Military Special Ops Romance. Book eight in the bestselling series PSI-Ops!

Paranormal Security and Intelligence operative and wolf-shifter Dougal "Striker" McCracken is known for his wild ways, and devil may care attitude. He's worked long and hard to build the persona. It disarms others and protects his emotions. The ones he keeps buried within. But try as he might, one woman sees through his antics. She's not afraid to call him on his bull or set him in his place when the need arises (which it often does). He's not sure how to act around the lass. On the one hand, she makes his body burn with a carnal hunger, the likes of which he's never experienced before. On the other, she's irritable, stubborn, not a huge fan of his, and most of all, vulnerable. He might have already missed his window to claim the feisty woman. Even if he hasn't, it would be wrong to give in to the pull he has to her when all she needs is time to heal and process everything she'd gone through. But it's impossible for him to stay away. Simply being in her orbit soothes his inner beast. He knows deep down she's his mate and that patience has never been one of his virtues. When the enemy makes a move against her, this Scotsman lets his beast and his emotions free.

And after reading book 1 from Grimm Cove, I already have my pre-order in for book 2.

I've been told I'm a force to be reckoned with. That I blow onto the scene like a tornado.

At age forty I've stopped caring if that's a compliment or a dig. Now I just wear it like a badge of honor. So when life threw me a curveball and I ended up going from a cushy job in New York City to the tiny Southern town of Grimm Cove I thought I was ready for anything.

Ha! Not quite.

You see, Grimm Cove is teeming with supernaturals. Since I've known they exist all of like a hot minute, I'm still in a state of total shock. When I learn that I come from a long line of witches and demon slayers, the stakes (pun intended) get even higher and sharper. These monsters aren't make-believe. They're out for blood. I'm trying to decide if having the head of the local wolf-shifter pack nipping at my heels is an asset in this fight, or if he's one more person I need to watch my back around.

Thank the estrogen goddesses I have my besties with me or I'm not sure I could survive being what most would label middle-aged, hunted by demons, and the heat that comes along with the South.

Book contains: kick-butt women who are considered middle-aged at forty but who don't let themselves be defined by a number, alpha males, paranormal elements (witches, shifters, ghosts, etc), some mildly strong language (nothing too earth-shattering), sexy scenes but they aren't 50 shades of OMG or anything and an alpha male and alpha female who butt heads but find their way to an HEA

Ms. Roth has several more out for pre-order, needless to say we are in for an exciting year.  Yay!  I already have all of them on pre-order, so I am prepared.
