Throwback Thursday – Gold Rush – Jody Wallace

This week’s Throwback Thursday was a prime example of why I love to be on the different author’s mailing lists.  I received an email from D.B Sieders stating she and Ms Wallace would like some readers for two of their Magic, New Mexico books, and who was I to say no to a writer in need.  Well, and it’s Magic, so who can really so no to that!

Ms. Sieders did not steer me wrong with these two fantastic reads.  Gold Rush fits perfectly with the rest of the Magic books.  It has that edge of danger that keeps the story hopping, the love that just kind of sneaks up on the characters, and, this one should be a no brainer, dragons!  Now I am totally invested in the characters and I need to see what happens next!  I know there are several other books available about the Dragons of Tarakona, so now I am going to have to go back and see what happened in those books also.  But first I am on to the next book, Gold Fever.

I highly recommend this book for a quick weekend read.  Of course, be prepared to not want to put it down and that you may just be like me, and need to see what happens in the other books of the series.  No matter which book you choose, don’t forget to stop and leave the author a review when you are finished.  Otherwise how will they know we want them to keep on writing?

Happy Reading

She didn’t know she was a dragon. He didn’t know he was a hero.

Oksana Popov, scientist, has no reason to believe in magic until she finds a portal to another world near the mysterious town of Magic, New Mexico. Even then she’s inclined to believe it’s military until she meets rascally wizard Wade Insbrook, who helps her through her transformation into an actual gold dragon. But when she tries to return to Earth and confront her parents about her heritage, Wade uses all the tricks in his very tricky book to stop her. Because gold dragons who don’t have a particular wizard to drain their power blow up. Literally.

And while Wade might appeal to Oksana’s baser instincts, he’s just not the right kind of wizard. Originally from Earth, he’s been hiding on Tarakona because of a deal gone bad with a demon. While things heat up between Wade and Oksana, her trip through the portal has alerted the demon, and soon the demon has discovered Wade at last.

A harrowing escape finds Wade and Oksana on Earth and racing to destroy a seemingly indestructible object before the demon uses it to raise hell. Their budding attraction won’t be the only thing that can’t survive the demon apocalypse.

Tropes: This fish out of water romance contains elements of romantic suspense and adventure, opposites attract, and the secret society trope.

Note: The Gold books are preceded by Silver Born by Jody Wallace, Silver Unleashed by DB Sieders, Read at Night by Jody Wallace, and Red in the Morning by DB Sieders, but all six Dragons of Tarakona books should stand alone. They are a subseries in the Magic, New Mexico world.

Official published review:

Out of this world

Many times I have visited Magic, New Mexico, but this was my first experience with this author. This book is just a joy to experience. I love how the characters have such strong personalities and how they manage to come together when you would expect a disconnect between them. The excitement was everything I have come to expect from the town of Magic and I love that the author made the female be the hero. I can’t wait to read the next book because I am fully vested in the outcome for the Dragons of Tarakona.

Jody Wallace grew up in the South in a very rural area. She went to school a long time and ended up with a Master's Degree in Creative Writing. Her resume includes college English instructor, technical documents editor, market analyst, web designer, and general all around pain in the butt. One of her many alter egos is "The Grammar Wench", which should give you an indication of her character. She is a terrible packrat and likes to amass vintage clothing, books, yarn, more yarn, gnomes, and other items that threaten to force her family out of the house. She also likes cats. A lot.

Ms. Wallace's approach to writing is to tell as many outlandish lies as she can get her readers to accept. Her dream is to be moderately well-paid for this service.
