Featured Author - Kasey Belle

I think you are going to love today’s Featured Author as much as I do, Ms Kasey Belle.

Ms Belle is such an inclusive author and I just love that about her.  Under Kasey Belle she writes from Paranormal to Erotic for readers who enjoy everything from heterosexual, ménage, and LGBTQ.  Under this name she has brought us such wonderful series like her Shifters of Sanctuary, part of the Howls Romance collection.  I think my favorite book in the series is The Grizzly Bear’s Barista.  I love how Rainbow is this strong, free spirited woman, and how Storm is this big strong shifter and they both encourage and support Steve in being just who he is meant to be.  This book just hits you right in the feel goods.

For every storm and rainbow awaits.

When Rainbow Mason opened her coffee shop Mug Shots in Sanctuary it was a dream come true. A place of her own to use her degree and build a life for her and her son, Stevie. Raised by her grandmother on a commune in Northern California, Bow was a free spirit. She had no illusions that she was different from the other residents of the small Montana town. Her outsides definitely matched her insides. Good thing sexy and scarred Storm Brightman, an ex-Navy SEAL and The Sanctuary’s new construction foreman, didn’t seem to mind.

The universe taught Storm Brightman he wasn’t meant to hold onto the good things. He’d lost his family at an early age. During his last mission he’d lost his friends and his career. After his medical discharge from the Navy he struggled to find another place where he belonged. Even after experiencing all that tragedy, it wasn’t in him to give up. Storm didn’t know what to expect when he accepted the job at The Sanctuary, it certainly wasn’t finding his mate. He may have survived multiple losses in his life, but Storm knew he wouldn’t survive losing Rainbow and her son. Should he claim his mate and family? Would history repeat itself and rip them away? Or would the universe let him keep this one perfect thing?

She helps him see that not all love is doomed, and he helps her son see that sometimes a bully is hurt on the inside and needs to be rescued. They have their struggles as they find their way to each other, but in the end, they find the family they were looking for.

This book is part of the Howls Romance collection

Ms Belle also writes gay male romance as K.A. Belle.  She just finished up her Oz-Vegas Trilogy this past year with Adoring Jamie.  You really need to read all three books so you can fully appreciate Jamie and his friends.  I love that he is an RN who loves his patients, his friends, his family and his perfect partner Alex.  Jamie is this super sassy diva who is not afraid to embrace life to the fullest and Alex is this soft-hearted guy in a larger than life package.  They might flounder a little on the way to their HEA, but it is such a fun and amazing journey.  I think you are going to love it.

I saw that you were perfect and so I adored you. Then, I saw that you were not perfect and I adored you even more.

Registered Nurse Jamie Burke was tired of being Mr. Right Now. Tired of being cast aside after the novelty of dating a fem man wore off. He allowed charm and a little silver at the temples to influence his past decisions, a mistake he vowed to never make again. He deserved better. He deserved forever. He wouldn’t settle for anything less ever again.

Businessman and Philanthropist Alex Smythe exuded wealth, power, and integrity. He had everything, except a personal life. Unfortunately, most men only wanted Alex for his money or his influence, while Alex wanted a deeper connection. Something he wasn’t sure he’d ever find until Jamie Burke strutted into his club.

An invitation to the grand opening of Oz-Vegas puts Jamie in Alex’s path. A single encounter with the sassy diva shakes Alex to his core. Their chemistry is explosive, but miscommunication and stubbornness keeps them apart. Alex goes on the defensive, determined to prove he and Jamie want the same things. What Alexander Smythe wanted, he made happen.

Making the Diva a queen

I could not want a better ending to this series. We have all fallen in love with Jamie throughout the series and could not have gotten true closure without seeing him reach his HEA. The author created this perfect little reality where we were able to get a glimpse of Alex as he wins over Jamie and shows him what true love really means. I especially enjoyed the way they took their love and put it into creating an outlet for children in need. I can’t wait to see what direction this author goes in next.

Oh wow, for once I think I might have managed to keep my introduction to a more reasonable length.  Of course, that is probably because the author has included many of my favorite books in the questions below.  Keep on reading to see which ones Ms Belle highlighted.

When did you first realize you wanted to be an author?

I’ve always written stories, for my own pleasure. It was early on in 2015, I was writing Their Cajun Queen, by that time I was friends on FB with a few authors. Those amazing women were like me once. They had a dream and the fire inside them to make it happen. I thought why can’t I be like them? Why shouldn’t I publish this? Did I have the guts? Could my ego take the criticism? I decided I had nothing to lose and absolutely no clue what I was doing, but I published anyway. I’ve learned a lot since then.

I love this book and this series.  I may or may not have re-read the entire series because once you start, they are too good to stop.

Fate is on her side

There are so many elements to this book. I love the military aspect and the fact that Fee seems to need to save the world. That altruism is probably why fate has given her so much, but not without her share of struggles. The author couldn’t have created a better personality for Fee and the people who will become her family. I love E.G., she is just too cute for words and it’s amazing how resilient she is. This book has a couple triggers, but the story is one you won’t want to miss. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

How long does it typically take you to write one of your books?

6 to 12 weeks depending on length. I am not a fast writer. I tried dictation, but it’s like I get stage fright. It’s really weird. I put the headphones on and I freeze. But, I could place my fingers on the keyboard and type away with no problems. Like I said… weird.

Do you usually write one book at a time or do you find yourself working on multiple books as your muse takes you?

One. I tried writing multiple books at a time. It didn’t work out so well for me. I’ve learned to jot down any notes for stories that come to mind so I don’t forget my ideas. Then I’ll tackle that story once I finish my current WIP.

What is your schedule like when you are writing?

I try to be consistent with my schedule since I’m a creature of habit. If I’m thrown off my schedule it screws me up creatively. I go to the gym first thing. If I don’t I won’t go, trust me. I’m usually at my desk writing by 9am and I work until 5 or 6. I try to take Sunday’s off. I treat my writing just like I would any other job. I just happen to work from home.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I write the prologue and epilogue first, save any sex scenes for last, and everything in between is written in whatever random order my muse chooses.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

I find inspiration everywhere. The news, personal experience, friends. For example. Jennifer in An Unexpected Triad is based on my best friend Jen who is a single mom. She had her daughter when she was sixteen and raised her on her own. Jen’s strength and snark inspired the heroine. Also, the story about her ex with a ponytail is actually true based on Jen’s ex and certain things he did. I am not afraid to eviscerate assholes in fiction.

This book was such a treat.  These three alphas each had to learn how to bend in order to make their relationship a success.  Ms Belle really made the characters relatable and kept the energy going all the way to the end.

Kell Creed was born to protect others. As a Navy SEAL, his duty was to protect his country and his team. As head enforcer for Copper Creek, his duty is to protect his pack. An impromptu meeting with a council emissary brings danger to the pack. It also brings him that much closer to a mate and family of his own.

Gunnar Stanton, bounty hunter and emissary for the US Pack Council, is on the hunt for a rogue werewolf and the trail leads to Copper Creek. As a hybrid shifter he’s endured his share of prejudice and hatred from the preternatural community. Needless to say, he is completely shocked when Kell’s pack not only accepts his presence, but embraces him as a member.

For a decade, Jennifer Alvarado has helped keep the mean streets of Las Vegas safe. When violent crime hits too close to home, she applies for a position with the Copper Creek Sheriff’s Department. Little did she know, it wasn’t just the promise of employment and a low crime rate awaiting her in the small Texas town―it was a whole new fated life.

When Kell and Gunnar meet their mate―CCSD Deputy Jennifer Alvarado―they realize the Fates truly do have a sense of humor. Two shifters whose very nature demands they protect those around them, end up with a mate whose job is to protect and serve and... she’s damn good at it. How do two dominant shifters come to terms with having a mate whose job constantly puts her in danger? …Especially when bodies start piling up.

Moving into a brand-new future

I just love the way this author has made this pack so inclusive of everyone. The author has built the entire series around the premise and each character and book brings a new level of enjoyment. I especially liked this one. Jen has been through so much and built herself and her life up to what she wanted to be. She doesn’t need her mates, but she sure wants them and that makes all the difference. I can’t wait to read the next book.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I was 8. I wrote a story about my “Littles” dolls.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I’m an avid reader so I do a lot of that. My husband and I love to hike and play tourist on the Las Vegas Strip.

What does your family think of your writing?

They are completely supportive. I have to reign my husband in sometimes. He’s read quite a few of my books. My daughters are supportive although they’ve never read my work. It’s not their preferred genre. My youngest (27) doesn’t want to read sex scenes I’ve written. My parents are also proud of what I do. My mother doesn’t read romance, so she’s only read one book, but she brags on me, so I forgive her. 😉 My father has read my books. Yep, that’s as weird to me as it sounds.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

I’m an 80s kid. I took typing in high school. I learned all the rules and utilized them throughout my professional life. I was quite surprised to learn that you don’t double space after end of sentence punctuation (periods, exclamation marks, etc.) anymore. I’m not sure where I was when this changed, but it was a hard habit to break.

Out of all of the books that you have written, which is your favorite?

I have two. Their Cajun Queen and All You Need is Love and Coffee.

All You Need is Love and Coffee is such a fantastic contemporary book.  Ms Belle takes the reader on a journey through self-healing to the HEA.  Okay, apparently, I have a thing for Ms Belle’s books with Baristas, but I really think it’s because the sassy women are not afraid to be themselves.  Well maybe a little afraid, but they are great at faking it til they make it.  And when the prize is your HEA it’s worth putting on your big girl panties for.

You don’t find your worth in a man. You find your worth within yourself and then find a man who’s worthy of you.

Maggie Layne has no desire to become a stereotypical, snotty, Stepford wife like her mother or a professional Vegas Sugar Baby like her sister. Maggie wants more than the hollow, soul sucking existence of selling yourself to the highest bidder, which contrary to popular belief by certain Layne women, although marketable, is not a skill.

Bugsy Siegel proved lucrative empires are built on the addictions of others. Like Siegel, Maggie chose to exploit an addiction of countless citizens around the Vegas Valley and opened her coffee shop, Caffeinated. Unlike Siegel, Maggie built something far greater than a gaming empire. She built a life she’s proud of, for herself and her daughter, Addie. On the surface, Maggie appears to have everything she’s ever wanted, but inside, she’s lonely. An existence she resigned herself to when her husband walked out, four years ago. Why would she allow herself to be sucked in again by such a fleeting emotion? How do you give someone that kind of power when you know the devastation love and lies leave behind?

Firefighter Nick DePere has two addictions, Maggie’s coffee and Maggie. For two years, he’s played the role of friendly neighborhood fireman waiting for Maggie to indicate she’s ready to allow another man into her heart. Thanks to a hair-brained scheme devised by Maggie’s meddling bestie, Nick may wait forever for that chance. How do you convince a woman who’s sworn off men for the rest of her life to take a leap of faith, one last time… for you? How do you make her believe you will catch her and never let her go?

Caffeinate me

The author made this book so realistic. The sassy barista from the hate filled family, her only real family is the people she chose. Sparky, the McHottie fireman, who has been surrounded by love all his life. I love the dynamics between these two characters, it is so sweet how they slowly become the couple they are supposed to be. This book is full of the author’s hallmark sassy snark and strong confident women. She just knows exactly how to spin a tale that pulls you in and holds you captive until the very end. I don’t know what she has in the works for us next, but I can’t wait to read it.

I just had to share this quote.  The book is in the middle of a serious moment and Bam! You are busting out laughing.

What do you think makes a good story?

Believable chemistry between the main characters is a definite must and consistency within the world you create.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I wanted to be a doctor. Then I realized you had to deal with gross body stuff and changed my mind. LOL

No wonder Ms Belle writes such fantastic, relatable stories, she takes from her own life to make her characters relatable and the worlds magical.  If you haven’t read any of Ms Belle’s books, I highly recommend them.  She really has something for everyone.

Ms Belle, thank you so much for joining us in the Reading Nook today.  I love all of your books that I have read so far.  Maybe I have them all on my Kindle app, but I can neither confirm nor deny that.  Be sure you guys keep reading until the very end.  Ms Belle’s links are below her bio so be sure to stop at her social media sites and let her know you love her work.  There is also a form to fill out if you want to see if you will be the lucky one to receive an adult book pillow and print book written by the author.
